The World Series champion underwent successful surgery to repair a fracture in his left foot on June 15. Update: The Athletic’s David O’Brien reported that Albies played catch on Aug. 3 and will “soon begin to ramp up other baseball activities.” O’Brien added that an “early to mid-September return is the best-case scenario.”

Many are asking when will Ozzie Albies return and be back for Atlanta. Most signs point to Albies’ injury being a Jones fracture. SportsMedicineOregon.com reports non-surgical treatments of a Jones fracture takes a minimum of 6-8 weeks. The website says that “the recovery time for a surgical repair is shorter on average but still varies widely.” It adds that “studies have found that athletes who return to intense physical activity too soon after a Jones fracture often experience re-injury.”

Braves President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos told Jeff Schultz of the Athletic in mid-July that the team is “looking at mid to late August, or worst case, the beginning of September” for Albies to return.

The Braves play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 5, so Albies will likely be able to play the final few weeks of the regular season.
